A chiropractor spends much of his education learning to evaluate and treat spinal subluxations. While there is much debate within the chiropractic profession as to the effects of subluxations, the majority of the profession does agree to what a subluxation actually is.

The definition of a subluxation is: an incorrect movement or a position of bones within the spine, resulting in abnormal and detrimental nerve pressure. A mechanical strain that results in wear and tear of other spinal muscles ligaments take place due to improper functioning of a vertebra. The other subsequent painful conditions caused due to subluxation are severe pain, tenderness of muscles, decreased mobility of spine, numbness in the extremities and inflammation. These all abnormal conditions are sufficient reasons that might require you to visit a doctor or a chiropractor.

Subluxation can cause adverse effects to the functioning of nerves and may also result in the decreased communication within the nervous system; thanks to the direct relationship between the nerve roots and spine. This is why it is very important to eliminate subluxations in order to avoid its negative impacts on overall health.

Causes of Subluxation

Primarily subluxations occur due to the following reasons:

Physical Causes

These causes are responsible for causing acute trauma that hinder repetitive motion and affect the spine badly. These physical causes might even be the physical positions we are accustomed to and have never thought about. They may include accidents, incorrect postures, wrong sitting position, and lack of ergonomics, improper lifting, repetitive motions and workstation habits.

Emotional Causes

They are generally the conditions of stress due to extreme emotional conditions. It generally includes overwhelming emotions like stress, anger, sadness and fear. Excessive emotional conditions and lack of stress management have significant effect on the functioning of the immune system of body that also result in several kinds of physical problems including subluxation.

Chemical Causes

These are the causes that involve effect of chemical intake of our body. Generally the chemical intake refers to diet, nutritional components, drugs, pollution, smoking, alcohol or chemical toxic agents present in food , air or water. Many chemicals that are not good for human body are likely to decrease immunity of body and reduce capability of body to tolerate stress of any kind. This might eventually result in spinal subluxation.

Treatment for Subluxation

Sometimes subluxation can be cured by virtue of natural abilities of human body to fight abnormalities. Human body has the natural tendency to resist all the negativities that are troubling. However, a severe subluxation may not be cured automatically and the patient may need to visit a chiropractor.

A chiropractor treats the patients of subluxation by locating the proper spinal vertebra by making certain adjustment. These adjustments are made quickly but with gentle and corrective force. This corrective force allows the immovable or incorrectly moving spinal joints to attain a normal motion. This simply depend on the chiropractor’s decision which method of applying corrective force should be used for the treatment of subluxation. Many times more than one adjustment is required for a complete treatment for subluxation.

Chiropractors are the only health care profession that concentrates on locating and correct spinal subluxations. The reason chiropractic treatment gets such positive results is the chiropractors ability to correct these subluxations and restore proper function to the spine.

Chiropractic has been proven good in the treatment of migraine headaches, and this has been proven true for past over 100 years. Although recently, a few reports by biased so-called medical experts indicate that chiropractic treatments for the cervical spine in certain ways, may result in possibility of strokes. Actually the statistics prove that chiropractic care sometimes is capable of decreasing the likelihood of ischemic strokes. Generally, migraine headaches are sometimes seen in connection with increased chances of ischemic strokes.

As analyzed by legitimate chiropractic research, chiropractic treatments and the risk of strokes caused by chiropractic should be compared with the prescribed and non-prescribed drugs, which are known to give rise to the incidences of cerebrovascular and ischemic strokes. The risk of strokes due to chiropractic is extremely low as per the result of the comparison and is generally considered to be the safest treatment for headaches due to migraine. Not only the safety, but it’s effectiveness in migraine headache treatments is the highest as compared with drugs and other treatment options.
As per the recent studies and surveys, the most common treatments for migraine such as drugs and surgery cause much larger numbers of strokes every year than those caused by chiropractic care. For instance, every year the number of cases of strokes occurred due to bypass surgery in the U.S. is much higher than the total number of cases of strokes reported for more than 100 years occurring due to or as a side effect of any chiropractic treatment. Various drugs and therapies such as hormonal replace therapy, contraceptive and birth control medicines and, steroids also result in the increased likelihood of strokes. Risk of strokes is much higher in cases when such drugs are recommended to the people with bad health and medical conditions like, hypertension, smoking, alcohol abuse, or diabetes. Not only the above drugs, but also the medicines especially used for the treatment of migraine headaches are even worse as far as the risk of ischemia and strokes is concerned. It can be easily understood that the chiropractic care is generally the most effective treatment and safest treatment for most types of migraine headaches.

In fact, chiropractors are trained to recognize certain factors which are evaluate the risk for certain neck adjustments. When using solid clinical judgment, chiropractic treatment has even less risk than taking aspirin for a headache.

Chiropractic techniques are well known when it comes to the treatment of joints, bones and muscles. The chiropractic treatments involve adjustments manually done to correct several abnormal physical conditions. The result of this treatment reflects in the entire body and the symptoms and pain due to the said abnormalities are eased with chiropractic care. Not only the joint pains and muscle pains, chiropractic care is very effective for the patients who complain about their severe and repetitive headaches. Chiropractic treatment is something that helps chronic headaches with the least side effects, highest safety and the maximum positive effects.

There are a number of kinds of headaches that, if treated with chiropractic care, can be cured efficiently. Following are the types of such headaches:

Tension Headaches

Contracted and tense muscles in certain parts of body, such as neck and back are commonly the reason for causing tension headaches. This is why a chiropractor should be ideal for the treatment of such kind of headaches. Misalignment or any kind of compromise of spinal bones may cause the tension headache because of nerve or tissue pressure. Unfortunately, the lack of proper care leads to the severe headache which becomes persistent over the extended periods of time.

Cervicogenic Headaches

Cervicogenic headaches are caused due to the abnormalities in the cervical spine. Lack of mobility in the upper cervical area is the main reason for occurrence of a cervicogenic headache. That is why it is quite understandable why the chiropractic care is assumed to be one of the best care methodologies for the treatment of this type of headache. Quite simply, chiropractic care directly targets the source of problem, which is cervical spine. As the chiropractic treatments are helpful in successfully treating these issues with the cervical region of the spine, chiropractic care is notably very helpful for curing other kinds of headaches include the common headaches, such as tension headaches.

Migraines

Migraine headache is the type of headache that is known to impact the patient negatively for long durations. Apparently, few types of migraine headaches do not have effective medications available at present. For such kinds of migraine headaches, an effective treatment, which is safe as well, is chiropractic. Few people still claim that the chiropractic treatments are less effective in treatment of migraines, which is proven to be a controversial statement and a false belief.

For almost all the kinds of headaches, chiropractic care is considered to the best treatment available, especially when the drugs associated with other forms of treatment increase the risks of strokes etc.

--> In light of a new survey showing that chiropractic spinal manipulation is the top-rated treatment for people suffering with back pain, patients should consider a consultation with a doctor of chiropractic, says the American Chiropractic Association.

The Consumer Reports Health Rating Center released the survey results of more than 14,000 Americans on April 6.

The survey rated doctors of chiropractic as the top practitioner, with survey respondents noting that they were more likely to be “highly satisfied” with the care received from their doctor of chiropractic (59 percent) than their primary care physician (34 percent).

To compare which treatments helped most, Consumer Reports asked its subscribers to rate a comprehensive list of potential remedies along with their satisfaction with the health care professionals they visited. Most survey respondents had tried five or six different treatments on average, and many found that their back pain interfered with their daily activities, including sleep and their sex life.

Doctors of chiropractic provide drug-free, non-invasive treatment options for many types of pain and inflammation. For example, chronic back pain, neck pain, joint pain and headaches can often be reduced with the appropriate combination of chiropractic manipulation, rehabilitative exercises and lifestyle counseling – all of which are offered by doctors of chiropractic in a patient’s personalized treatment plan.

A significant amount of evidence has shown that the use of chiropractic care for certain conditions can be more effective than traditional medical care, with many patients feeling improvement shortly after their first chiropractic visit.

Here are a few facts about back pain in the United States:

• Americans spend at least $50 billion each year on treatment for low back pain.

• One half of all Americans will experience some form of back pain this year.

• It is the second most common reason for doctor’s visits.

• Major studies have shown chiropractic to be the most effective form of treatment in most cases.

I have been a Chiropractor in Jacksonville for over 20 years and have seen thousands of cases of low back pain. These cases range from simple localized low back pain to severe radiating low back pain. Some of the severe cases only responded to chiropractic treatment after exhausting all other types including surgery.

There are a few important things to remember about low back pain and when to seek chiropractic or medical evaluations:

• If there is any pain radiation into the buttocks, hips, leg or feet.

• If it lasts more than a couple of days or gets progressively worse.

• If you experience and urinary issues with low back pain.

• If you experience a fever with low back pain.

This article is not meant to replace proper professional evaluation for Low Back Pain. I cannot stress strongly enough how important proper evaluation is. If you live in Jacksonville and are looking for chiropractor or even a medical doctor or osteopath that treats low back pain, I will be more than happy to help you find the appropriate specialist.
